The Destruction Left by Typhoon Ondoy

Typhoons are nothing new in the Philippines. Each area gets hit, an average probably 8-13 storms per year. So what happened? Rain didn't stop. Landslides happened. The river brinks gave way. And here you see it, floods, accompanied by rain and wind, and current. People in second story homes having to climb their rooftops. Most devastating of all, 246 (as of writing this) did not survive.

If this was America or some other Western country, people would be crushed. Tears everywhere. Everyone is mourning. And then I see these Filipinos on TV, smiling while receiving aid, laughing, albeit ignorantly as you would say, pointing to the camera and they're glad to be on national broadcast.. it makes me proud to say I am part of race that supports moving on, happiness, and this is what I think one of the good advantages of a religion, esp. a Christian one, can bring.

Its not just Manny Pacquiao in a fight that brings a nation together. Its a tragedy like this, which brings our people closer. Filipinos from all over the world where concerned, Im sure the majority of them trying to call at the first chance they could. I pray for those stricken, for those losing property, and I pray for hope.

               Mabuhay Pilipinas!
